Welcome to the 'KENORA' Expats Homepage

Written for the gals and guys who attended

Kenora Keewatin District High School

back in the golden days of the late 40's and early 50's and for all friends of KEEWATIN and KENORA. So, follow the links as interest guides you. Send me links and pics and info to help build the site. DIG AROUND!! Find some pics of our glorious youth [glorious? well, whatever] and get them to me.

Many of this group have kept in touch over the years and have been having Triennial Reunions. PICS of the 10th REUNION - JULY 06 may be seen by the participants at KENORA '06 Pics

KENORA-KEEWATIN HISTORY

Kenora History - the Manitoba - Ontario Boundary War 1881-1884 - The KEYSTONE COPS in KENORA

When Ruth McLennan was a student at Kenora High School [years?] she wrote a History paper which provides some other views of the familiar story.

John Burchill, a Winnipeg police man with long ties to the Lake of the Woods provided a comprehensive history of The Rat Portage War

In Oct '06 John Ibbitson of the The Globe has provided a fresh look at the old battle with an article harkening back to the old dream? of MANTARIO

It must be the Flavour of the Month in journalistic circles as the Globe article was followed by an Ottawa Cirizen articleMANTARIO 2

Very much under re-construction as of 21 Oct '06. Maybe for the last time, given the advancing years of many who may have an interest and access to pics etc, a PLEA !! Look thru your old pics; check the albums and scraps books; help me make this site a record of our lives and heritage.

Another personal note - Even if the powers that be snuck up on me with the amalgamated "KENORA" I can still dream of a simple name change to reflect the glory of old Keewatin. WHY NOT KEENORA??? . Remember how Kenora got its name: KEewatin+NOrman+RAt Portage. So there is nothing old and glorious about the spelling KENORA, particularly when you find that even Rat Portage was WAS STOLEN FROM KEEWATIN!

Help me identify the "??".
